MEET TENNIS DIRECTOR, DAMIAN SANCILIO

The Tennis Director for Midlothian Athletic Club is Tennis Pro, Damian Sancilio. Through his proven coaching method, MAC Tennis offers a progressive approach for juniors and adults seeking to improve their game through hard work guided by customized lesson plans designed to improve performance and unlock potential.

When you join MAC Tennis Lessons, you are guaranteed a small class size (we maintain a strict 1 to 6 coach to player ratio), a customized training plan that aligns with your current level of play, and a supportive and fun tennis community to grow with you throughout your tennis career. Damian, and MAC, are passionately dedicated to improving tennis skills through quality instruction and positive mentoring. We believe that the skills learned through the mastery of tennis not only serve us on the court but in all of life’s endeavors. We believe that tennis is not an individual sport, and we work hard to establish strong relationships so our students know that in us, they have teammates for life.

Damian brings a wealth of experience to the position as he has been a certified Elite tennis professional with the USPTA for 32 years. Damian has been a director of tennis at 3 different clubs and is excited to bring his knowledge and enthusiasm to the tennis community at MAC. Some of you may recognize Damian as he was the first tennis director at MAC in 1990 when it had recently opened as Robious Sports and Fitness Club.

A graduate of the University of Virginia, Damian was a nationally ranked junior out of Richmond, VA who went on to become a scholarship athlete at U.Va, where he played number two singles and was elected team captain. He is also a two-time Richmond City Singles Champion and has been inducted into the Richmond Tennis Hall of Fame and the Douglas Freeman High School Hall of Fame for his achievements in tennis.

Damian also worked on the women’s professional tour (WTA) for 4 years as he coached Sabine Hack to the 1994 French Open quarterfinals and her ranking reached a high of #13 under his guidance. Damian also traveled the world for 6 years as the head coach for the Kuwait Davis Cup team before returning to Richmond to start a family and become partner/tennis director at Courtside West where he established the Sancilio Tennis Academy in 2009. Damian will bring his teaching methodology to the club as he will continue the Sancilio Tennis Academy at MAC.
